The Right Way To Shave

Shaving is one of the most popular methods of removing all bodily hair - facial, underarm, chest, leg, among other. It looks simple, but a lot of people have been known to end up with cuts, bumps, abrasions and irritation. Even if shaving is common, using a razor is not as simple as it seems. The art of shaving is something that people learn over time through trial and error. But why wait a long time to master the art of shaving? Learn the art of shaving now by following these easy steps.

Get wet. Really, truly, and seriously get wet and drenched. Wash the body part to be shaved thoroughly. Remember, when shaving, water is your best friend. Do not even attempt to shave the hair on dry skin. You will get hurt. Take a shower and get wet. Afterwards, go shave.

Lubricate your skin. This means using a shaving cream chock-full of lubricants and moisturizers. Most people use foamy shaving cream when they should be using shaving cream with a creamy lather. Apply the shaving cream to your face and leave for a minute or two. Give your shaving cream the chance to work its magic by lubricating your skin. A well-lubricated skin allows the razor to do its job most efficiently. It can glide smoothly, thus lessening the chances for cuts, bumps and burns.

Keep a good razor on hand. Have you been using that razor for awhile now? Time to ditch it. A used-up razor is a useless razor. Not only is it not doing its job, it might even be causing your skin some minor irritation. Dispose the disposables. Otherwise, change the blade. Be experimental. There are a lot of razors out in the market. There is the possibility that the right razor is waiting for you. Try using single-, double-, and triple-bladed razors. Be gentle to your skin. Get a new razor now.

The wrong way IS the wrong way. The cardinal rule in the art of shaving involves the direction of your hair's growth. Do not go against the grain. Always shave with the grain to avoid ingrown hairs and razor bumps. Keep rinsing your razor to avoid clogging it. Once you are done shaving, completely wash the leftover shaving cream. Make sure that you have shaved successfully. Otherwise, apply shaving cream again to lubricate your skin and shave the areas that you missed. Once completed, wash your face with cold water. Men usually apply an aftershave lotion to avoid skin irritation and razor burn. by Lynn Lopez
